For over twenty years, The Children’s Hospital... For over twenty years, The Children's Hospital at The Medical Center of Central Georgia has been the primary source of healthcare for sick and injured kids from more than 29 Central and South Georgia counties. Here, each child, regardless of ability to pay, receives world–class care, specifically designed for pediatric patients. Part of what makes that design so special is the child–friendly, family–centered approach our professionals take to healthcare. This method encompasses every aspect of care including staff, physical surroundings, and even medical apparatus used. The Children's Hospital understands the needs of kids differ greatly from those of the adult. As part of our pediatric surgery program, physicians performed more than 2,700 operations last year, from minor outpatient procedures to dramatic lifesaving surgeries. With such marked growth in this service, it is imperative that we keep pace with the best pediatric medicine has to offer, while maintaining a child-friendly atmosphere throughout the surgical experience. Proceeds from this year's race will help fund renovation to three sections of the pediatric surgery area–the playroom, the surgical prep room, and the transformation of an current space into a family consultation room. Surgery on a child is never easy for the child or the parents. Your participation in the 16th Annual Reindeer Run and Santa Stroll will help us make their experience a little easier. Thank you for helping the next generation of Central Georgian grow healthy and strong!

Meet George Leachman...When it comes to challenges, sweet George Leachman has had his share. Born at just thirty-two weeks to Craig and Holly Leachman, George spent the first six weeks of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at The Children's Hospital at The Medical Center of Central Georgia. During those first few days, doctors diagnosed him with Cerebral Palsy.
Holly Leachman with George at the 2007 Reindeer Run It seemed Craig and Holly were adjusting to caring for a child with Cerebral Palsy when another problem began. At eight weeks of age, George was admitted to The Children's Hospital's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit with bacterial meningitis, an infection of the fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Unfortunately, secondary problems from the Cerebral Palsy, will require George to continue visiting The Children's Hospital. "George makes me feel like a good mom," says Holly. "He will have his challenges and that is okay. When I see other parents not being able to take their child home it begins to put life into perspective. Yes, George may have his challenges, but we will make the most out of all his accomplishments," says Holly with a smile. |
